This flexplate is for use on pre-1986 small block 289/302/351 engines with a 28 oz external imbalance that are converting to an AOD transmission. When Ford switched to a roller 5.0L engine in1986, the external imbalance was changed to 50 oz so the AOD flexplates used in those later years will NOT work on an olsed pre-1986 engine swapping in an AOD transmission. This TCI 164-Tooth External Balanced AOD Flexplate is the solution that allows you to swap. This Flexplates is also 0.035 in. thicker than a stock one so can withstand the stress of high-rpm engines and high-stall converters. It also has extra welding to help retain the starter ring gear, and is SFI Approved.
